Write to Express, Not to Impress

There are many posts on medium on how to create followers, get likes or earn bucks. But, Are we just writing to impress? When you write you would want to express your opinions to the readers so they are triggered to think and you kind of influence your opinions and put your point of view so the reader is persuaded to think.

The rat race

We are not in a rat race on who gets many followers, who gets more likes, or who has more posts. We are provided with a platform to pen our thoughts in a way that we engage the readers or even pass on the knowledge to the readers so they can get easy access and produce valuable content to be able to influence the opinion

Medium Posts

I see so many posts on how to get more followers, how to get more likes, or even the support for support tag. There is nothing wrong but if it is only about followers. Then perhaps the right platform would be Instagram or even youtube. Medium is a medium of budding writers. We are supposed to be creative and chose topics no one has taught about or at least get unique content to be able to engage the readers and even get another perspective to a reader on what he or she already knows.

Quitting a Day Job

Yes, many want to be able to earn money so they would be able to quit their Day Job we all want to be able to quit Day Job and I reckon that it is better to be able to start a decent living out of writing but does it mean we make it a competition. The best of the writers or authors did not become writers so they can only earn. I have seen many people having prestigious Jobs quit their high net worth Jobs to only become a writer and start from scratch but they were not in a rat race. They just fuelled their thoughts and expressed in a way that could actually impress the reader nor were they given tasks to do. If you are already thinking that writing is a task. How is it even different from a 9 to 5 job?

Practice makes everyone perfect

I agree with the part if you are just writing to practice but I have seen many other platforms where many people just message me stating to follow them so they follow me back. I support budding writers and I am one of them but the majority of their job is to message random writers than actually create valuable content.

Conclusion

Finally, I would just conclude based on the posts I have seen on medium or whatever goes viral especially on how to make 6 digit numbers. There is nothing wrong that one is ambitious and want to grow but making the platform look like a rat race is something I don't appreciate. Let the content come in and even if you have very few followers that do not mean you are a bad writer. Give it time. Dont race. Master before you become big. Remember “Every expert was once a Beginner”. there is no need to have peer pressure on winning the race of having millions or billions of followers. we are writing and producing content here. It's not about how many followers we have, It's about learning and progressing. Medium is not a Rat Race!!
