What is Depression and what are the signs?

Depression is a mental health disorder that can affect people in different ways, but some common signs and symptoms include:

  1. Feelings of sadness, hopelessness, or emptiness
  2. Loss of interest or pleasure in activities once enjoyed
  3. Fatigue or lack of energy
  4. Changes in appetite or weight
  5. Difficulty sleeping or oversleeping
  6. Feelings of worthlessness or guilt
  7. Difficulty concentrating, making decisions, or remembering things
  8. Restlessness or irritability
  9. Physical symptoms, such as headaches or stomachaches, that don’t respond to treatment
  10. Thoughts of suicide or self-harm

It’s important to note that experiencing one or two of these symptoms does not necessarily mean that someone is depressed, but if several of these symptoms persist for two weeks or more, it may be a sign of clinical depression. If you or someone you know is experiencing these symptoms, it’s important to seek help from a mental health professional.
