Dealing with tough people at Work

when you enter into a new office, you will be greeted and inducted and eventually you will realise that who are the colleagues who support or clap for you and there would be few who will criticise you. It is ideal to have both at the workplace mainly for the one to encourage you so you keep going and boosted with motivation and energy and who criticise you so you can take the criticism as a challenge and rise up.

How to deal with the colleagues who criticise

Keep the conversation short

It will be ideal to keep the conversation short with such colleagues who see nothing but the faults but it is healthy to take the criticism so you can deliver a better quality eventually. If all colleagues only praise you and do not criticise you would feel you are doing really well and you will never ever try to up your bar. It is ideal to have healthy constructive criticism but some colleagues may deliver in a way that can do more damage than it will benefit you. In such cases, I would like to keep a healthy relationship with them to execute the faults that were picked in the last report and convey that you have corrected the mistakes and if there is anything they would want you to change and keep it short.

Dont get personal

When they are attacking your work, it is ok that they are talking about it, but if you start taking it personally, you will only be demotivated. Try not to take things personally and try to understand their work as sometimes we feel hurt and rejected as we don’t understand how our work can influence their work. When you put yourself in their position or do a secondment you may realise the reason why they asked you to correct mistakes and how does your work affect theirs.

Upgrade your skills

Many a time sit is ideal to understand the business and upgrade the skills o it can make your life easier. If you understand the business and reports better you will b able to understand the work and find out your own mistakes and try to correct them in the first place rather they having to come back and criticise and knit pick on your reports.

Ignorance is Bliss

If after doing and implementing everything still, the atmosphere doesn't change. It is always ideal to ignore such people and continue your work. It is easier done than said but if you develop that attitude it will not only help at this workplace but also in lifelong workplaces and personal lives. Sometimes, it is better to ignore such people who don't see good in anything.
